Paid Sick Leave
CHOC provides associates with a Paid Sick Leave (PSL) benefit as required under the Healthy Workplace, Healthy Families Act of California. You accrue PSL at the rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked or .03333/hour worked. Once your accrual reaches the Maximum Accrual Balance, your PSL accruals will stop. PSL is based on a plan year that begins every July 1 and ends on June 30.
Work Schedule | Maximum Days Used Per Year | Maximum Accrual Balance |
---|---|---|
Up to 8 Hour Shifts | 3 Days (24 Hours) | 6 Days (48 Hours) |
10 Hour Shifts | 3 Days (30 Hours) | 6 Days (60 Hours) |
12 Hour Shifts | 3 Days (36 Hours) | 6 Days (72 Hours) |
If you accrue Paid Time Off (PTO) and you have more than 3 days accrued in your PSL account, some of your accrued PSL will automatically be transferred to your PTO bank within 2 pay periods after the plan year ends. The PSL amount that will be transferred is equal to 3 days less any PSL you took during the plan year. The remainder of your accrued PSL will stay in your account and up to 3 days may be used in the next plan year. However, any PSL amount identified to be transferred will not be if your PTO balance is at the maximum of 360 hours. Also, any portion of the PSL amount will not be transferred if it will cause you to exceed the maximum PTO balance.
