Disability Insurance
A disability can be one of the biggest financial risks you face. That’s why CHOC gives you the opportunity to purchase disability insurance to help protect your financial well-being. If you become ill or injured and must miss work for an extended time, disability insurance can replace a percentage of your lost income.
Disability is defined in The Hartford insurance policy. Typically, disability means that due to accidental bodily injury, sickness, mental illness, substance abuse or pregnancy you are unable to perform the essential duties of your job, and as a result, you are earning 20% or less of your pre-disability weekly earnings or you are able to perform some but not all of the essential duties of your job and, as a result, you are earning more than 20% but less than 80% of your pre-disability weekly earnings.
Short Term Disability (STD)
You may choose to purchase STD coverage which pays a benefit amount of 70% of your regular weekly earnings up to a maximum of $1,500 for a period of 24 weeks or until you are no longer disabled. Payments begin after 14 days of disability. This benefit is reduced by the amount of California State Disability Insurance (SDI) payments you receive.

If you are between the ages of 60 and 65 when disabled, benefits will be paid up to a maximum of 60 months.
