Benefits While on Leave
PTO
- May choose to use accrued PTO during Pregnancy Disability Leave, Military Leave or Worker’s Compensation
– Submit your request in Workday Absence if you choose to use PTO - For all other leaves, accrued PTO will be automatically paid
- PTO will be paid in coordination with SDI or PFL benefit payments so no more than 100% of your gross pay will be received (SDI/PDL + PTO)
CHOC Benefits Plans
- Can remain on CHOC Benefits Plans while on a State and/or Federal protected leave and if the premiums are paid timely
– One-time and automatic payments may be done at HealthEquity.com - Monthly premium invoices will be mailed to your home address
- Must contact Benefits Department to add a child within 30 days of birth
- When returning from a leave of absence, associate has 30 days to log on to Workday and re-enroll in health coverage. Enrollment changes are effective on the 1st of the month following the return to work date. Please go to http://benefits.choc.org/changing-your-coverage/ for instructions on how to re-enroll in health coverages
State Disability Insurance (SDI)
- State of California will pay benefits for up to 52 weeks of disability if certified by a doctor
- There is a 7-day waiting period for all disabilities before benefits are paid
- Your weekly benefit amount is approximately 60% to 70% (depending on income) of wages
- Weekly benefit payments range from $50 to a maximum of $1,216

Paid Family Leave (PFL)
- State of California will pay benefits for up to 6 weeks
- There is a no waiting period before benefits are paid
- Your weekly benefit amount is approximately 60% to 70% (depending on income) of wages
- Weekly benefit payments range from $50 to a maximum of $1,216
